Pownin is a German language coaching app. During a Live Coach session it listens through your microphone, tells you what German speakers around you are saying, and suggests what you can say back.
Pownin is a learning tool, not a translator or an interpreter. Its suggestions are generated by AI and can be wrong, incomplete, or inappropriate for the situation. Do not rely on it where being understood correctly matters — medical appointments, legal or official matters, contracts, emergencies, or anything with financial or safety consequences.
You are responsible for what you say. We are not.
You can start using Pownin without signing up. Guest access includes 15 minutes of Live Coach. After that you'll need an account.
Guest data lives on your device only. If you delete the app or lose your phone, it is gone and we cannot restore it.
This is the most important thing in these terms.
Pownin hears everyone near you, not just you. Before you use it, you are responsible for making sure you are legally allowed to.
Laws on recording and listening to others are strict in Germany and much of Europe. In Germany, capturing someone's private spoken word without their consent can be a criminal offence under §201 StGB. Rules differ in other countries.

Don't use Pownin to:

Pro subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles billing, renewal and cancellation under its own terms. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policy. We generally cannot issue them ourselves.
Your right of withdrawal. As an EU consumer you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. If you buy a subscription we will give you access straight away, and by doing so you give your explicit consent to performance starting before the withdrawal period ends and acknowledge that you lose the right to withdraw once the subscription has been activated. You can still cancel at any time so the subscription does not renew.
The app, its design, and its content are ours or our licensors'. These terms don't give you any rights to them beyond using the app.
German sentences and explanations Pownin generates for you are yours to use.
We try to keep Pownin working but we don't promise it always will. It depends on third-party AI services, your network, and your device. We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid feature, we will tell you in the app and refund the unused part of your subscription.
You can stop using Pownin any time by deleting it. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, with notice where reasonable.
We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act, and for guarantees we have given.
In all other cases our liability is limited to the breach of obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of these terms possible in the first place, and is capped at the damage typical for the contract that we could reasonably have foreseen at the time you started using Pownin.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury, intent, or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law. As a consumer you keep the protections of the law where you live.
We may update these terms. We'll post changes here and update the date. If a change materially affects you, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Pownin after that means you accept the new terms.
These terms are governed by German law.
The EU Online Dispute Resolution platform is at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
